Crying 5 year old

Hi Moms

I am desperate for advice. My son is 5 years old and he is afraid of a lot of things. He is afraid to be alone even if it is in his bedroom. He is afraid of trying new things, he is currently in a skating program for 1/2 hour one day a week and he is the only kid that cries for 15 minutes. The second 15 minutes once it is out of his system it's a completely difference child. If he is doing anything and his brother is involved he is Mr. Personality. He is outgoing and loud and is the most fun to be around. I don't know how to get him to stop the crying during skating and other "fun" activities.

maybe you should take him to the skating place before everyone else in the class gets there so he's not overwhelmed. A lot of children have trouble coming into a situation where there are a lot of people and they're doing something new. Try taking him skating on a different day than the class so he can get used to one thing at a time (the skating, the teacher, the class). He might feel more comfortable trying out a new activity with someone familiar.
Does he have friends? Try signing up your son and one of his friends for the same class so he knows at least one person.
