Do young toddlers hate haircuts? my 3yr old is suddenly being stubborn!

My 3 yr old son never fussed about getting a haircut from me till he turned three. Then suddenly one day he just refused. Now even after trying to cajole him and convince him that a haircut is a matter of hygiene and trying all kinds of rewards etc. its just not working. I thought it was fear of the scissors so i let him cut snips of my hair so he realises that its not hurting me and it wont hurt him either. Nothing's working :(

Does he seem frightened or is it more that he just doesn't want to take the time away from playing to sit still?

My son is also 3 and I get him to have a haircut by:
1)using clippers instead of scissors - it's faster.
2)let Daddy go first while he watches/plays nearby (this is if your husband will let you cut his hair!)
3)gets to watch more than one episode of a favourite tv show (usually it's all very strictly controlled, so this is extremely exciting for him)
4) is allowed to turn on the clippers himself.

1 and 3 are for the sake of keeping him still, and 2 and 4 are so that he won't be scared but instead will feel a little proud of how grown-up he is, just like Daddy.

Perhaps you can show him some videos of other toddlers having haircut. It may help.

My toddler (2.5 years old) was quiet fine with having his haircut until the day when he refused to have his hair washed. He also rejected a haircut.

We let him watch his favourite videos while having his haircut. It worked! We got the idea from several salons in Singapore that lets children watch videos while the hairdressers cut their hair.

Hope this helps.

All the best!
