Getting rid of the Pacifier

Please Help!!! Getting rid of the pacifier is pure torture on 28 month old daughter, Mommy and Daddy. We know that it is important for so many reasons, but it is so difficult. Thankfully, it is not the thumb. Anyways, 6 days ago, we gave the pacifier to her favorite Dr. who thanked her and said there is a baby who really needed it. She even sent her a big stuffed Mickey Mouse through the mail along with a thank you card. It was very sweet. Our daughter used to love sleeping, now she dreads going in to bed. It is a screaming match and tears for both nap and bed time. Sometimes, she will go to sleep well if I sit at the end of her bed reading my own book with a book light, Sometimes, she wants to lay in the rocker while I sit on the floor reading. Then I can lift her up and put her to bed. We try not to bring her to our bed as that is just another habit we will have to break later.Advise/suggestions please.
