Mommas! I need your help. My children and I went through a horrible experience while traveling with American Airlines. Im trying to let them know they cannot discriminate and treat mothers and their children so unprofessionally. Will you all please help me by signing and sharing? http://www.change.org/petitions/american...

my honest opinion. it was simply bad customer service - not having anything to necessarily do with you having children. it's hard to gauge that an employee did something "rudely" as there was much assumption in your petition. they may not have discriminated - they probably treat everyone that way. (good or bad).
I am also surprised because you state in the petition that you fly once a year so you and your family should be well aware of what services the airline provides and doesn't provide.
unfortunately, flying is harassing to begin with. checking your bags (except for a diaper and few essentials) may have given you better management over your children. AND the passport MUST be signed (not a new rule for sure). the process through tsa - has not changed too drastically within the last four years so I'm not sure why you thought you could take a stroller through the screening gates. once the airplane is out of space for carry-ons, they have to check the remaining bags. like I stated, this is all "regular stuff".
I'm sure it was frustrating but these all appear to be more about the process and their procedures than whether or not you had children. this is all normal frustrations with flying. trust me. I fly at least once a month for work and I paid extra to simply have tsa pre-check to avoid the "crazy". and, I will not lie - I did that to avoid all the families flying to Disney world and trying to get all their carry-ons through tsa while I have a purse and a laptop bag.
many airlines allow families with small children to board (even pre-business class) because they realize they need more time. living in Atlanta, I fly delta mostly and know this is the case with them. some airlines will actually allow pre-boarding for a very small fee.

I'm sorry that it was frustrating but ALL airlines are frustrating nowadays. you have to prepare for the worst when at the airport.

Hi @Lori, on the link below is our story of what we went through. Talking to other moms, many have gone through similar or worst.
