Thinking about potty training my son, Nicolas. He will be a year and a half next month and seem like he is ready for the potty. Just curious if any one has started or I should wait til he is two.

Thank you and any advice will be helpful...

Thank you everyone who has given me advice...I think I am going to try it but wait until next month- because we have a trip coming up and don't want to be worrying about the potty why we are on the road. Thanks again

My son is going to turn 18 months soon. I have a daughter who is 3 years old and still working on perfecting the "potty training" to get into her big girl underwear. My son idolizes his big sister and loves to sit on the small potty when his sister is sitting on the big potty doing her business. I'm not pushing him to use it, he just chooses to sit on it to feel "included" in the activities :) I think this is GREAT because it is getting him used to just trying out the potty for when it is time to start training him. Also, it's just super cute how he wants to be grown up like his big sister! :)

I think next time around I'll start my child on the potty really early, not that I expect them to "get it", but just to make it seem like a normal part of the day. Like I'd do it first thing after they wake up in the morning, right after nap, and before bath. My 2.5 year old is afraid of the toilet, and I think if he was used to sitting on there it wouldn't be so hard to potty train him.

So go for it, in my opinion. If it takes, that's great! If not, don't worry about it, he's very young.

Here is an article that talks about the signs of being ready. I think one and half is a little young to start potty training but you could start introducing the potty. He could pick out a new potty and you can try and get him to sit on it while you're going potty I just wouldn't expect to much, he's still pretty young though.
