This last Monday my family and I came home from a long weekend camping trip. My daughter was irritable and I figured it was from the heat and the poison oak she had contracted on her feet. Later in the day she began to run a fever and started to vomit. I gave her fever reducer tucked her in and kept up with her fluids. Her fever hovered around 100-101 degrees from about 2 or 3 p.m on. Around 9 p.m. she began to vomit again. I bathed her with a clothe and checked her temperature 101 again even with the medicine. We were watching one of her favorite shows and she was sitting in my lap when I felt her stiffen up. I looked down and saw her eyes roll into the back of her head and her body begin to convulse. I have had experience with children with epilepsy so I instantly set her down on the bed and rolled her on her side. I watched her and suddenly she turned purple and blue and then stopped breathing. I had to give her CPR. She responded well and her heart started to race afterward while she came back conscious. Her eyes were disoriented and blank and she just was still. we called and ambulance and when to the hospital where we found out that her temperature had risen to 106 degrees! I couldn't believe it. Once they got her fever under control she began to talk slowly at first until she was back to normal and wanting to go home. We went home and the next day her throat was covered in blisters and patches. She had gotten the fever while her body battled Strep throat. She is doing well considering, but my peace of mind is gone. I've done plenty of research on febrile seizures and I know the facts, but I'm still traumatized. (This is not the first time I've experienced a scare with my daughter. When she was a month old she stopped breathing and we ended up in Chicago Children's Hospital where we found out she had severe acid re-flux and the pain literally took her breath away. SHe stopped breathing again at 3 months, but we hadn't had any problems after that until now. This seizure has by far been the worst.) Every mother should be more knowledgeable about febrile seizures. I didn't know how common they were or anything about them before this and it angers me.
Have any of you ever experienced this?

When my oldest son was just a few months old (now 11 yrs old) I was holding him, he also had a fever. He was wrapped in his baby blanket sleeping in my arms and I started to dose off also until suddenly I felt him start to convulse I immediatley called 911 (I was 16 and was so scared) We went to upstate childrens hospitil he also had suffered a seizure from being so hot. When he was 3 we were moving into a new house and he started to get a fever i took his temp and it was 101.He was laying down to rest and about an hour later he woke up and he could barley open his eyes and his face was bright red and his lips were blistered. I took his temp and it was 105. I took him to the childrens hospital they said its normal in small children and they see it all the time and sent us home after his fever had went down. I didnt think it was normal i've never heard of such a thing so I brought him to his doctor the next day. His doctor said that he could have had a seizure or even brain damage from a fever so high. Its scary that something like that could happen from a fever. I wish you luck with your daughter I hope you never have to go through that again
