So my 20 month old has been constipated lately. We have tried most of the 'natural' remeidies like apple peal and prunes and such. We tried a supp last night and she pooped it out within 10 minutes, but it wasn't nearly enough poop for the 3 days it's been since she's gone and she was screaming, shaking and crying. I'm afraid she's now afraid to go poop. Anyone have ideas on how to soften her stools? Should I be worried and call the doctor?? I just need help to make my baby comfortable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would have reinserted the suppository and this time made sure it went in deep and pinched her buttocks together for as much as 10 minutes to ensure it melted. Then she would expel any excrement still waiting to be "done".

Is she getting lots to drink also? Make sure she is getting enough fiber in her diet every day, lots of fruit and vegetables. My little one also love oatmeal. It should naturally occur if she is eating enough regular food with enough fruit and veg. If you are concerned talk to your pediatrician, that is what they are there for. They may suggest some tweaks in her diet or something simple like that.....
