My daughter will be 2 in a week, and has JUST started waking up in the middle of the night crying uncontrollably... She ALWAYS been a fantastic sleeper, even through nap time. We thought maybe she was sleeping too much during the day, so we've switched to 1 longer nap instead of 2, and that doesn't seem to make any difference... She cries pretty often when waking up from naps now also, which she NEVER did before... I've tried letting her cry it out (10 to 20 minutes at a time), and she NEVER stops crying!!! I'm at a loss. Does anyone have some great advise as to WHY this is happening, and what I can do to make it stop?!?!?! It's very obvious that she is not in pain, and it's not teething. She wants to be taken out of bed it seems... I just need advise on how to get through this effectively, and QUICKLY! ;)

Kids go through sleeping stages, that would be my first guess. My toddler went through the same thing a few months ago, making for a couple of weeks of LONG nights. I stopped giving her apple juice in the afternoons in case it was giving her weird dreams, and kept a half-bottle of milk ready in the fridge to give her when she woke up in the middle of the night to help her get back to sleep. I think in my case, she just needed to know I was there. Apparently, around 2, separation anxiety can start up (again) as they become aware that you are a separate person. Stay strong and hopefully your little one will go back to normal sleep soon! I also picked up a copy of "go the f*** to sleep", not to read to her, but to help me giggle during those late nights :)
