I have a 13 month little boy~ He used to go to bed regularly between 8:30-9:00 pm. Lately he hasn't been wanting to go to sleep until 11:30- 12:00 am., I am a full time working mother and my alarm goes off every morning at 4:00 am. I struggle and fight with him every single night to get him to go to sleep early. I've tried the warm milk, I've kept him on a schedule of dinner, playtime, bath, followed up with a warm bottle and I rock him to sleep. I've also tried laying him in his crib with soft music playing in the background or putting a cartoon on for him; all he does is scream. I need help~ I've become more and more exhausted; late for work and short tempered. If someone has any ideas to help me I'm open for anything.

Sincerely,
A very tired new mom.

830-9pm is too late for toddlers to go to bed. Try starting the bedtime routine at 7pm. Toddlers love repitition. Bath, tooth brushing, pjs, book and bed. A little rocking and into the crib before he's fully asleep. Babies need to learn how to fall asleep on their own and not rely on props (parents) to get them to sleep. Be kind but firm about your expectations and don't give in to crying and tantrums. He doesn't need a bottle to go to sleep either and you want to consider breaking the connection between food and sleep. My 2 1/2 year old didn't sleep through the night until 8 months and I was distraught with lack of sleep and worried about going back to work without a good night sleep. I finally did a cry it out and it only took 2 nights. With my 1 1/2 year old I started "sleep training" right from the beginning....I always put him to bed drowsy but awake. He has slept through since 6 weeks for 13 hours every night.

Best of luck...I know this is hard but getting your little one to sleep well on his own is the greatest gift you can give him and you.
