HELP!!! Terrible two's or trouble?

I'm so overwhelmed I don't even know where to start. My son, who is now 1 month shy of 2 years old is STRESSING ME OUT! Since birth he has always had a very quiet and cranky disposition. I used to always wonder why he could not have been the "bouncing baby boy" I envisioned. I would see other moms with happy, highly babies and be consumed with jealousy and then hurt for felling that way.
Fast forward to today and not much has changed except now I'm terrified this may be more than just normal "terrible two" type behavior. He is almost NEVER happy. From the time he wakes up until I put him down it is constant whining, crying, hitting and melt downs. On the rare occasion he is happy, I could almost cry with joy.
I am very attentive and affectionate, I do not tell (though I am firm when disciplining him) or hit him, he lives in a happy, healthy environment so I don't get it! He does very well at daycare, it's everywhere else that's an issue. I'm so worried he's showing signs of serious behavioral issues that I often just cry thinking about it. This sounds terrible but he's just sin mean at times. I know many are experiencing similar issues, but ALL THE TIME?

Sorry that you're going through all this, but it could just be a phase. Have you reached out to any support groups in your area??

The other thing is he could be going through something health-wise, like teething or growing pains. Have you tried speaking to his pediatrician about this? S/he could also recommend some resources for you.

The last thing is maybe he just wants to interact with children his age. Perhaps signing up for local recreational groups/classes appropriate for his age. Also, make sure he's getting his naps on time. Sometimes, when kids are overstimulated or overtired, they get cranky.

Good luck!
