Help with 15 mo old shrieking

My 15 month old shrieks all the time. She's not upset or throwing fits, she just shrieks. If she sees something she wants, if she's bored, if she want down from her high chair bc she's suddenly decided she's done eating. She just shrieks all the time. She talks incredibly well for her age, already over 120 words and using 2-3 word sentences, but she always shrieks first, and when I ask what she wants she'll tell me. I have a splitting headache within a few hours of getting up everyday and I don't know how to get her to use her words first, not just when I ask. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

There is no easy answer for this. It really requires you to be patient and consistent.

Since her language skills are good always insist that she speak her request before you grant it. Don't give her the chance to attach any value to the shrieking. Don't get worked up about the shrieking either. Try whispering to her when she shrieks.

Watch for patterns to see if the shrieking is worse when she's tired, hungry, frustrated, impatient, etc and do what you can to mitigate the triggers. If she shrieks to get out of the high chair consider just seating her at the table. If she she shrieks to get out of the tub try to get her out before she gets to the end of her rope, wants out immediately and feels the need to shriek.

I'd like to tell you that she'll grow out of it. She might, but some kids have a short fuse or are impulsive in this way for a long time.

We're struggling with this kind of thing with one of our kids. She's always been prone to flying off the handle first, and telling you what's actually wrong second. And if you go to the playground or stand around outside of an elementary school, or even a middle school, you will find kids, usually girls, who are still shrieking.
