My son is 2yrs 8mths and has always been a good sleeper but lately he is waking up at 2-3 every night and staying awake for hours it will be at least 2 hours usually 4-5 hours, i change him give him a drink of milk not juice but he still doesn't settle, we have tried the return to bed method and have done it non stop f...or between 4-5 hours a night he just wont give in and we were shattered, when he gets up he kicks his bedroom door non stop its so loud even my neighbours on the other side of the house can hear it, so we cant just ignore him and leave him to it. So then opted for leaving the door open, this works better he gets out a few times and climbs over his safety gate but will eventually stay in bed but calls out asking silly questions for hours on end.He has a nightlight and a good bed routine, there have been no changes at home or to his routine, we have 4 children and none have done this so any help would be great, thankyou.

My son is 20 months old and he has always been a great sleeper, although for the past month or so he has been up at night (sometimes 2 or 3 times each night). We've tried everything we can think of - leaving him to cry, changing him, feeding him, leaving a light on - nothing seemed to work until I thought of putting a little of my perfume on a teddy bear for him to cuddle. It seems to have done the trick - for 4 nights in a row he has slept right through. Worth a try! Good luck :o)

Does he run or jump or gets hyper before bed? because mine used to do that and it would take the sleepy right out of him. Have you tried linden tea? With no sugar before bed, I brew a cup for me and one for him mix it with his milk warm maybe a bit of ovaltine (he wont feel the taste) and my kid sleeps the night although I started to put him down at nine instead of 8, it works fine, try it couldn't hurt. hope you get back into the routine, good luck!

Thankyou for your replies, no nap in the day has not had one since he was about 2, this week it has been 2.30 on the dot every night but no noise or anything to wake him i think he has just got in a routine of waking then cant get back to sleep, i wondered aswell as Danette mentioned if its nightmares so now leave the door open but he is still waking up, hopefully it is a phase wow 6 months your sleepless nights have been going on for Danette i hope things settle down for you aswell as me and anyone else going through the same thing as its exhausting.

My daughter will be 3 in few weeks, and its been over 6 months since she slept through the night ! She wakes up 3-4 times a night too. I'm at a lost too. She gets MIlk and sometimes a cracker if she says shes hungry. I don't know if she's having nightmares or what. It might just be a phase their going through, thats what I've been told . ajusting sleep patterns. Hopfully it doesnt last much longer for us all :)

Does he still nap? I recall my 2yo doing this and we had to trim her nap back and it really helped.
