I have a severely autistic niece, and a niece and nephew both with milder symptoms. You're not alone! So many mothers and families are figuring out their childs' unique autism symptoms and what to do - and it takes time. A new symptom may be a reaction to a new stressor or a change in routine. Or perhaps in response to a developmental frustration - inability to communicate, inability to cope with aversions, etc... Sometimes it's something that he's dealt with well in the past, but that his coping skills are no longer enough for the situation. It's hard not to panic when a child starts up suddenly with loud, frightening symptoms. Try to stay calm and focus on what just happened - what is it that he feels unable to cope with? If it happens completely randomly, consult with his doctor/therapists to see what they say or if they have noticed anything different. Good luck! Be kind to yourself as you're figuring it out. You're a great mom!
