How can I get my toddler sleeping all night again?

My 22 month old slept through the night as an infant no problem, infact was basically sleeping through the night within his first 2 weeks home. He wouldn't sleep in a crib as an infant, he would sleep in a playpen in the living room no problem but his crib in a bedroom was out of the question. I could have him sound asleep put him in his crib and within 10 min he was awake screaming put him back in playpen and right back to sleep. Got him sleeping in his crib in his room around 12 mths old he slept until morning most nights. He goes to sleep on his own and will sleep for awhile but around 18-19 mths old he started waking up just about every night 1-2 times some nights I have to bring him into my bed to get him back to sleep and I cannot calm him and get him back to sleep in his own bed. If I move him to the couch or my bed or anywhere else it seems he goes back to sleep even in a room that is darker/lighter than his room. I have tried so many different things and none of them seem to work besides removing him from his room. I had to sleep train my daughter around 8 mths old so I know how that works (really hard for first week of attempting)and with the 2 boys I started them right away to avoid that problem. It is hard to "just let him cry it out" as he will cry till he gets sick and he shares the room with 8 yr old brother that has to go to school. We also have a 10 yr old daughter and his daddy gets up at 4:30am and if I let him just cry he will cry until everyone is awake. We have a set schedule/routine for bed time and he goes to bed around the same time every night (7:30p) I have also run into problems with nap time within the last few weeks. He also just started climbing out of his crib so I am switching to a toddler bed and I fear this is going to make the problem worse. I just don't know what to do anymore nothing seems to work.....any suggestions from the moms out there.
