How can I put my 16 month old to bed when she screams in crib and vomits?

My 16 month old was a great sleeper until she got bronchitis and I had to hold her so she could breathe to sleep. Now, for the past 2 months, she screams if I put her in her crib. My husband cannot console her at all. She just screams for mama. She will get so worked up so quickly, she generally vomits in the first 2 or 3 minutes of crying so CIO is not an option. I think she just wants to have me near her when sleeping, but our bed is not big enough and my husband hasn't slept in our bed for 2 months. It is taking a toll on our house because I need to be able to do things in the evening after her bedtime! HELP! Any suggestions?

My son had a asthma scare and he slept with us for about two weeks. After it was over he returned to his bed but screamed saying he was scared. I decided not to fight it and gradually introduced him to his room again- starting with nap time, then at night I would stay with him until he fell asleep. If he woke up in the middle of the night I stayed with him again till he fell asleep. It was a long process but it worked. Also you may try to put her in a big girl bed and let her "help" put it together and make the bed. My son was thrilled when I took him out of his crib- oh I put up a gate at his door so I knew he wasnt roaming around and we have a camera in his room and I let him see that mommy has a tv in her room and can see him all the time. :)
