I have a one year old, who we are trying to ween off his bubba, we give him water in a sippy and he spits it, or hangs it upside down to spill everywhere ( whoever said spill proof sippys are liars). I am afraid to give him milk or juice in a sippy because of all the spills, I have tried several sippies and none seem very good. Any suggestions? on sippys or on how to get him to stop spitting it everywhere?

i have noticed that my daughter spits out her water when teething is really bothering her... she like the cold water running over her gums.. i usually take it from her,, give her a teething ring then give her back her cup and she doesnt do it anymore... dont worry its just a phase.. it wont last

thank you everyone for the ideas. I definately think it is just a phase, because when he learned raspberries (ugghhh) thats when he started with the water thing. Like i said i am just more afraid when giving him milk in it he may do the same thing, good thing for carpet cleaners huh? haha again thanks everyone

They have these new sippy cups that are like a bottle but they have to squeeze it when they drink it, the work wonders.. My son used to always spit it out and tip it over until i found these ones now he loves them ,i finally got him off the bottle with them.. I really like them alot.. That would be the best thing for u... Good luck...

My daughter did that!! It is just a phase ( actually she stil walks around with it upside down spilling it even at 21 months) The best thing you can do is just ignore it. They usually start it because it is a new sensation feeling water down their chin, and they find it really funny to spit it out and so when you react it is even funnier so then they do it more. Just don't respond, clean it up and walk away, pretty soon they will find it boring and stop spitting it out.

When my daughter spits water from her sippy, I take the sippy away and tell her " No spitting " . It seems to curb it a lot. She tends to spit more when she's not truly thirsty but bored.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Our son went through a little phase like this too. Maybe he is spitting it every to get a reaction out of you. Just don't give him a reaction if he does spit it everywhere. It may take a little while for him to give up on entertaining you in this way but it worked for us. Good luck!
