I can't get my 18 month old to eat any meat or vegetables. Even when I hide them in his other food he just spits them out. What do I do? Is this going to hurt his health?

I gave my first two children peanut butter after they were a year old. But I've read people who now are saying wait until 2 years. You may want to call and ask your pedi or one of the nurses. They should be able to answer to your question.

Thanks. I did start him on vegetables, and he used to prefer them over fruits but now its pretty much bananas, pasta, and bread. I've recently started giving him vegetable juice which he sort of drinks, but still no luck on meat! He used to eat anything and now he's so picky! And does anybody know when it is safe to give him peanut butter (for the protein)?

My 5 year old never liked either of those, and we did start with veggies first. But he eventually wouldn't try anything new. I agree to keep offering them, but if he absolutely refuses then offer the food without demanding he eat it. Be sure not to force him to try it or meal time (which should be enjoyable for him) will become a battle and it will be impossible to get him to try new foods. It won't hurt his health as long as he's still getting a variety of foods. I had the same problem and my first, but my pediatrician wasn't concerned and my son mostly ate pb&js and grilled cheese Having the same food on your plate that is on his can also coax him into trying a new food. Hope this helps a little.

If you start them on fruit before vegetables, you'll have a hard time getting them to eat vegetables. Just keep offering them. One of these days he'll try them.
