How exactly do you potty train a boy who is scared of the toilet and won't go near the big one or his potty chair?

Make it a game with him make it fun for him. Bring his 2 or 3 favorite toys with him in the bathroom put him on the toilet them u sit on the floor and play with the toys and make him laugh while he is sitting on the toilet. Get his mind off of him sitting on it. Works every time

My son was too. He was 34 months when I started. I used all his diapers and never looked back.  No pull ups either. Too many kids can't distinguish the difference.  Ummm. presistance.  The day after I start training, I found out we were leaving to fly across the country for a week!  A whole lot of laundry was done as he continued to pee his pants, much to my dismay. He too hated the potty chair and the toilet. He would not stand to pee, cheerios or not. rewards or not. After a week and a day and a new, (travel) folding potty seat (for $10 at walmart), he got it. less than two days before our venture. well, he got peeing anyway.  We just went cold turkey and made him learn to not be afraid of the toilet.  In the end, it was his decision as to which way he wanted to go: chair, seat or toilet. but he had to go!  He is still afraid of the toilets at walmart and most other public ones. Most kids are. Avoid those at all costs until you know his pee schedule and he is peeing well.  Also note, that you may want to train your little man to stand to pee and that is fine. But you can't take a stool everywhere you go. Chances are he will be atleast 5 before he can reach the toilet without peeing on it while standing!  just a thought. Mine has been trained for almost a year and still doesn't stand to pee. Although he did have a few little stints where he would for a week here and there.

Patience be with you!

My boy was terrified of the potty and the big toilet too. All i could do was talk about the potty everyday and keep mentioning that mommy uses the potty, daddy uses the potty....basically he didn't use it until HE was ready. he just said one day that he had to use it. we also just put him underwear and told him he couldn't poop or pee in them...he'd have an acident and feel kind of ashamed but he'd put him right back into a clean pair of underwear...after 3 days he was using the potty.

If you have a boy try to put Cheerios in the big toilet and make it a game for him to aime at them when he stands up trying to go pee. It work for my sister son. And I wouldn't use a plastic potty because its really different then the adult potty. So when they get to big for the little potty and they have to move up to the big toilet it seems scary to them because its not pink or blue or its not decorated.its just a plain big tall toilet to them. I would just use the normal toilet. When u put them on make sure they hold both sides of the toilet with there hands. They need to learn how to hold them selves on it because u can't sit there and hold them till there 5. This is all I did with my two nefews and it work. Good luck
