then play! make up a game that uses the numbers/letters but still keeps him active. boys are more inclined to learn actively than by sitting down and studying. try a jumping game where you count as you jump. you could even write the numbers on construction paper, have him/help him identify the number and then hop on it as many times as the number says while counting up to it. for abcs, you could try to come up with an animal for each letter and do flashcards- "A, a for alligator, what does an alligator say? RAWWWRRR!" you could even incorporate silly movements imitating the animal.
he will learn his abcs/123s, he's just not ready to do it the school way. embrace his energy and use it to his benefit! good luck!

Does he like watching TV. A lot of shows teach the letters and alphabets. Does he like electronics? Maybe a computer game or an app on the Ipad can help as well.

Toddlers learn through play. That is why when you look at a preschool most of the time is play....but educational play. You can learn colors, numbers, letters, shapes, math, reading all through play. Social skills, problem solving, and emotions are also learned through play. For a toddler play is the most important learning tool.
