How to get my 19 month old to STOP using the bottle at night?

My 19th month old girl wouldnt give up her bottle at night. During the day she can use a straw cup just fine. But she HAS to have her bottle to go to sleep. I need help! I want to potty train her soon, and many books say to not let the child drink anything before she sleeps.! What to do?

start weaning her....if you give her a full bottle at night, lessen it to little less then full, then to half, then to less than half, then to almost empty, and so on. Eventually she'll get used to drinking less

yep only way to stop her from having it is just not give it to her. Will she cry and scream for it at first....probably. The bottle right now is the only way she knows how to put herself to sleep, so it will take time for her to get use to putting herself to sleep a new way. Getting rid of the bottle will also help her teeth as well. So even though it might be hard for the first little bit you have to be the parent and know that in the end it is better for her to not have the bottle. I would advise you to just throw out all the bottles in the house. This helps to not be tempted to give in when you are tired and just want her to go to sleep. There are many different ways you can do this. Some just throw them out plain and simple. Others will have the child give the bottles to a friend, family, or neighbor that they know that has a little baby...saying that baby needs them now and that she is a big girl now. Others have a good bye bottle party, and leave the bottles for the bottle fairy/easter bunny/santa clause (whoever you think of) to take them. Good luck and stay strong....this is good training for what is to come as she becomes older and the issues you have to stay strong on become more challenging.
