My 8 yr old is a special needs child ( high functioning). she does not sleep at night we have tried all kinds of meds to get her to sleep. Some things will help for a short time. We have tried the later night bed time. We have an alarm. The door handle cover, Baby gates. Yes i said Gates all the way up the door way. She figures out how to get out of her room in the middle of the night. She is so sneaky that she now knows how to get past her alarm system. When she gets up in the middle of the night ( all hours) She is getting into things. From Markers on the furniture, walls, ect. Getting into foods. Just in the past few days she went through 12 bananas flushing the peels down our toilet plugging it BAD!!! We have had talks with her about how important it is to not come out of her room and if she is to come into our room (Which is right across from her room) and wake us up. She would much rather sneak around and take things that she knows are OFF LIMITS ( this in my eyes is stealing). We have grounded her taken everything away from her and it does not faze her at all. Please if someone has ANY suggestions at all please please tell me. My husband and i are scared to death that something terrible will happen to her in the middle of the night and we will not know. She has gone out of the house in the middle of the night also. There are times she goes 12 days with out sleep. And this mama is extremely tired because i can not get a GOOD nights sleep with the worries of her getting out of her room and hurt. I read some comments on another mothers post about putting a lock on her sons door. Well from experience i WILL NOT DO THAT. We had a Autistic child that we did that to keep him safe. And the state came in and tore us up. Their suggestion was to put in an alarm well alarms do not work for our daughter.

I am not sure what else you can do other than maybe sleep close to her. I can only imagine how hard it must be not being able to sleep. Have you tried natural sleeping aids to give her? Sometimes when traditional medicine does not work, herbal medicine might. You just need to check with Natural medicine doctor.
