my husband and I currently have a TRO and currently have custody of his 3 year 7 month old daugher. over the past few weeks I have noticed some odd behavior and wonder if this is normal. she can count to 6 and can count on her fingers, but seems to be unable to count actual objects. if i mix yellow and blue blocks to gether and ask her how many blue blocks she will point at one and count as high as she can, if i ask her to sort them she has difficulty. with help she can sing her ABC's to O but does not recognize any of her letters. she is still putting just about everything in her mouth, and doesnt like to make eye contact with anyone other than me and at times her dad. we have caught her chasing the dogs and choking them. she also throws a large tempertantrum anytime she doesnt get her way... this gets worse after she sees her mother, how much of this normal.

thanks for the advice. me and her father are looking into daycare today to help with her social skills, and i found a play therapist at my college to help with the transion and her past experiances.

just keep working with her on the colors and counting and all of that. you can talk to her doctor about exactly where she should be with all that. as for choking the animals, and things like that, she is only doing what she has been seen done, or she has not been taught not to do all of that. you need to teach her what is appropriate and what is not. you should figure out what she has seen and been through while with her mother. that would probably explain alot of it. good luck. just keep working with her as much as possible.
