Late speech

My 21/2 year old son doesn't really talk . And speech therapy has been prescribed. He says a few words and 2 or 3 word sentences , but very rarely. He can go for weeks without saying a word. I'm really concerned. Any tips?

Hi there. My son is 2.5years old and was a major speech delay. We have also been making use of speech therapy sessions. He also got evaluated by a occupational therapist and is now also attending occupational therapy also. I have found that him attending both is making a huge difference, better than only attending speech therapy. He basically only started 'talking' (making animal sounds, naming toys and people names) about 2 months ago and is making good progress. In the last two months alone he has gained over 50 new words. (before this he only said mamma, papa & baba) Have you tried a occupational therapist? Why I am asking is, is that a occupational therapist can look at why your son isn't speaking at times ;o)
