I would just like to take amoment to announce that I have created a new community titled Moms on Methadone...It is a support group for moms or moms-to-be to voice their concerns, questions, opinions, fear and stories involving being on the Methadone Maintenance Program. I encourage anyone to join who is looking for a safe place to bond and reach out to other mothers (including myself) currently or previously on the program. This is not a place to judge or critisize...simply a place for us moms going through the same thing to come together. Thank you, Sincerely jenn (Group admin)

:) I found out i was pregnant when ii was usingand it was too hard not to mention dangerous for me and the baby to quit old turkey, thats when i started methadone...She is due in October...and I also have the most beautiful 2 1/2 yr old son anyone could ask for. My kids are everythig to me and I made the choice to do something sooner rather then later, now i feel i have my life back and can give 110% towards being the best person and parent i can be. I dont live in guilt anymore and lies...Methadone was the boost i needed to start putting my life back together andI am forever greatful...I dont know how long it will take before i can taper off the methadone, i am on a fairly low dose of 30mg/day rigght now and i cant remember the last time i felt this happy and energetic and just embracing each day. However long it takes i am ready to do it for my kids and for myself:)

My family has big problems with my daughter-in-law, who is on methadone. They don't think she is clean. I see it as a life saver for her. She is getting her life together. I have one of her children, from birth and she 20 months now, went on the methadone with her second child and is able to keep him. I believe without the program she wouldn't be clean and would most likely be back on the streets. good luck to you.

I am a nurse and never have had a drug problem. I just wanted to let all of the mothers know that it is great that you are recieving treatment for your problems. Keep up the awesome job of staying clean. I wish all of luck and happiness with your kids.

You are making the best choice you can ever make. Quiting drugs is the worst thing to go through. I went to prison and that made me change my mind about using. now i have 2 pretty girls, 1handsome son and a great husband, who is also in recovery. now they make me stay clean and sober today!!!!!

Thanks so much for all the positive support:) I am glad there are people out there that understand and do not judge. It is better to be doing something to better your life, then to go on living as a junkie...Its very encouraging to hear other ppls success stories..it gives me the strength to know i am making a good choice for myself and my family

yes you cannot abuse it, if you complete the program and participate in the courses and helpp offered combined wth a dose that isn too high and is right for you it can really help you get things back on track..A lot of poeple do abuse it though which is a shame because it truly is a wonderfulthing to people that really want to chnage and just need that little break or boost to do so:) It is a treatement for a disease, not another way to get high...thats what is important to understand..and it isnt an easy way out..you still have to be willing to be clean and make positive changes...but ti can help to give you that chance you need to not deend on the illegal drugs. In my case i got pregnant with my 2nd child while i was doing hydromorphines (i have never injected them thank god i got help befoe it came to that) but it was to dangerous and painful for me to quit cold turkey and this was the safest oprion for my baby as it is safe for an unborn baby, unlike street drugs, it is a stable dose and u know what u r getting..It is closley monitered along with help from my prenatal doctoer. etc...My son is 21/2 and i havent done ne drugs at all during his pregnancy so i thought i could just quit for this one but it was just to hardand dangerous for me and the baby...So now everything is going great and i have a little girl due on october 4th:) And i can be a much better mom to my son now too. He never went without but i just nevr felt 110% because of sickness and needing a pill. Now i have my life back and i can enjoy my pregnncy and being a great mother again.
