Our little guy can count to twelve, knows quite a few colors, shapes and letters and can draw a recognizable face... He's my first, so don't really know is this wow, or just mildly cool :) Just wondering what other mothers of a 24 month old are experiencing... curious :)

Im sitting here wondering where my sons achievements are. At 27 months, he counts past 100, gets bored. Counts by 2's, 10,s and 100's. Knows his ABC,s. Counts to 15 in Spanish, thanks to Dora. Can write all of the letters, spells all of the colors and other words like run, jump, great, mom, dad, grandma, his complete name. Uses the computer by himself on ABCMOUSE.COM. "I love that site." And plays his NABBY all by himself. Is there anyone else that has these experiences? Mt reason for asking is that I want to screw up as a parent. Thanks

My daughter can count to 20 and she is 2 1/2. She can only count to 4 in spanish. I don't know what they are typically supposed to count to at this age. She can recognize some letters and knows the sounds they make. She really likes books and her bath toys are letters so we play with them during every bath.

My nearly 2 year old (birthday in 3 days!) can count up to 12, but is working on going up to 20. She gets the numbers mixed up after twelve. She watches Dora/Diego quite a lot so she probably understands some of the numbers in Spanish, but I haven't heard her use Spanish numbers yet.

I have a little smarty pants girl - she counts to 10, can reliably identify the printed numbers 1 to 5 and can count about that many object. She is really more interested in letters though and knows the whole alphabet and can identify all 26 letters. We're starting on the sounds the letters make and identifying both upper and lower case letters. I'm constantly blown away by her - kids are so amazing!

My youngest could do a lot before he was 2. He knew his alphabet, could read his name and was beginning to read by himself (he was reading properly by the time he was 3). By age 2, he could count to 20 and soon began counting to 50 and 100 when he was 3. He counted "things". What I mean is, many children learn to count "by rote" first, just reciting numbers in order without necessarily having an understanding of what to do with them. My son never did that, he went straight to using the numbers he had learnt appropriately.
As for my other child, I honestly don't remember when he was counting! He certainly counted to 10 before he was 2 but he was more interested in adding up so, while he might not have recited numbers, he was adding single digit numbers when he was 2!

My 22 month old son can count to "10" in English. Sometimes he skips "1 & 2" and jumps right to "3" lol. He doesn't count consistently every single time...sometimes I have to help him or get him started. :)

My son could count to 10 at 23 months but he liked to skip '7'. ;)

He also could identify every letter in the alphabet... probably because his obsession of wanting to know what each one was called and pointing them out in his books. He also use to ask what each letter was called in his alphabet soup. He'd say "mmmm L taste gooood!"

But now at 3 years old, he's forgotten a lot of his letters, probably because he grew bored of wanting to know what they are. He isn't interested in practicing them as much now.

Our 21mth old can do up to 6 in English (occassionally misses out 5 hehehe). He tries so hard to keep going up to 10, he points to things as if counting, but 7-10 are all 'six' according to him :-)
Once he's 3 we are going to start teaching him spanish too as my husbands family is colombian.
