When you say your 27 month old doesn't speak too much, what exactly do you mean?

Does sh e babble? Say individual words? Combine 2 words?

There are 2 types of first language learners.

The first type is focused on words. These children say LOTS of words by age 2. Your daughter is obviously not this type of language learner.

The second type is focused on the flow of conversation. These children don't say many words but they 'babble with feeling'. They don't say actual words but it seems like they are trying to have a conversation with you but you don't understand them.

If your child is the second type of language learner, she will probably open up and talk in full sentences by age 3. If your child is not babbling in a conversation type way, I would contact your local school corporation to get information on speech/language intervention. There are specialists in most areas that (often free of charge) can provide you with simple activities to do at home to encourage language development.
