Oh my gosh, I remember when my daughter did the same thing, starting about the same age. My own mother's most useful advice was to choose my battles carefully when raising my own children.
Honestly, as long as our children are getting a good night's sleep and behaving well overall for their age ;) what's the big deal? I just bought a thick fluffy area rug about her size to sleep on and made sure her PJ's were warm enough for the season because she only liked one rather thin blanket. At two years of age, she was probably beginning to show her own independence by choosing where to sleep. I'm not trained in child development but having raised my own kids, and provided child care in our home for years, I have learned that toddler's need to make some of their own decisions. It builds their confidence. They are very aware that their lives are mostly controlled by adults.
My daughter is 11 years old now, and over the years has still piled up blankets and pillows on her bedroom floor and slept there. It's just fun and different.
Best Wishes,
Darlene

lol my kids have both done this! It might be that he's too hot, so try opening the window a tiny bit (the bit you can do with the child lock on), or he might just be going through a phase x

at home i have two boys one step one mine that do the same exact thing. I let them be especially if the room is picked up. They are not hurting anything and they are still safe. I think my boys do it because those toddler beds are not made to roll all over. I have come to the point where i know if they are on the floor without pjs they are hot, on the floor sprawled they were tossing and turning fell out of bed to many times and decided the floor was ok. They move their beds to and take their matters off. If that happens right before the usually hit their head on the wall and that was the smart idea...I have a baby cam in their room because it bugged me too. They sleep in their beds more now with new mattresses and toddler bed in a bag with a comfort and pillow case fitted sheet and flat sheet. Just relax boys do crazy things.

you said "he likes to rearrange his room he puts his bed blocking the door and so he can get the lights if he doesn't move his bed hes usually on the floor. normally in very let him do (almost) what ever he wants but this is a first"...

This is an easy fix and haven't met a three year old that hasn't done this at one time or another so don't take issue with this.
Take the bed frame out of the room and put his mattress on the floor. Much easier to move/push it out of the way than a whole bed. Safer too -in case there was an emergency.
Buy a small lamp that takes a night light or any 7 watt bulb and keep it in a safe spot higher than he can reach and leave it on during the night. If he has chairs in his room take them out. Climbing in the dark to turn on a light can cause a broken bone or twisted 'anything'.

my inlaws have 7 kids. most nights they throw all their blankets and pillows on the living room floor and all sleep together :) if he's comfortable on the floor let him be. at least he isn't in your bed like mine is in my bed lol if you're worried about him being warm enough toss a blanket on him. he'll kick it off if he gets too hot

My 3 year old has been sleeping on a little toddler-sized fold out couch for about 3 months now instead of in his bed. No idea why he wants to do it, but really, what's the harm? Do you move him back to his bed when you go in there? Or does he go back on his own? Or just stay on the floor? I guess if he's comfortable (and safe, of course) then I don't see any harm in it.

This is normal for some tots. Consider checking out a school furniture store online and buying him a cot like the ones they have at daycare. Does he go to daycare? If he does he probably learned to do that from the other kids.

my daughter went through a phase for like 6 months, of crawling out of bed and sleeping on the floor, she was doing it for the most part, with her giant teddy, so we started putting the teddy in her bed, and eventually she got to going to sleep in her bed again every night

I don't think so but I would look into reason why he's doing it. Where is he going on the floor? close to his bed or a different location. Did you recently rearrange his room?
