Hi, my 3-year-old daughter has had this mucus-cough and runny nose for about three weeks, I tried Robitussin, Childrens Nyquil and it went away for two days and it came back and it just wont go away. I have not taken her to her doctor because I know what she is going to say, that that's normal and she wont give her anything. What can I do to make her feel better? I don't want her to miss another day from school, she loves going to school. Well its headstart but she just loves it. Thanks in advanced.

The American Pediatrics Academy says children under 6 shouldn't be given cough and cold medicine- because it is NOT effective. The medicines you are using are particularly dangerous, and often say don't use under the age of 12. If it is about the cost of seeing the DR.- I think we all understand that one- Just call and ask for a recommendation over the phone on what to do to help her. Especially if it lingers like that. My son had a cough like that and it turned out to be whooping cough. He was vaccinated, and he didn't get the taletell whoop, but they can still contract it after inocculation.

Have you considered calling your doctor's office to at least talk to a nurse and letting him or her know that your daughter has had this cough and runny nose for approx. 3 weeks? That's a long time for that to go on. There's a chance that your daughter has more than just a cold.
