My daughter who is almost 3 takes a sippy cup of water to bed with her. The problem is that when she wakes up at night and gulps her water down it's started making her sick. What can i do?

I feel the same way when I drink a whole glass of water on an empty stomach. It really tries to come back up!

I would suggest either giving her a nightsnack before she goes to bed (to make sure she's not really hungry when she gulps it down) or reduce the amount of water in the sippycup. Surely a few sips is enough to tide her over?

You may need to check her to find out what is causing her excessive night time thirst. It may be that she is breathing through her mouth, it could be anything, but you need to find out from someone qualified to make such a diagnosis...as well as it could just be a bad habit. Drinking water is never a bad thing especially for children. It is very hard to get children to drink a fair amount of water so, her doing it voluntarily is nice. Water can only hurt in extremely large amounts but I believe might be a habit. Probably you should try putting less water in the sippy cup each time she goes to bed, at least until the habit is broken, but please do not discourage her altogether from drinking water.

What about one of those non-spill sippy cups that you have to suck really hard on before anything comes out. Then she will only be getting little sips no matter how hard she tries. I prefer sports bottles for little ones myself, again they can't take huge gulps.

I agree with Elfrieda. Don't put so much water in the sippy cup. Did she just come off of a bottle?
