My three year old does the same thing. I don't know if she will grow out of it, it has been about a year now. I think that it is just a normal exploration. I have sat her down and told her that it is not appropriate to do in front of people. I don't want to tell her not to do it altogether because I'm afraid it may affect her when she gets older. Kids this age just do it because it feels good, they don't know why. I think that it is normal.

I've worked in daycare centers for years, and we always have a couple of little girls around that age that do similar things....it's perfectly normal. All of the kids I've worked with grew out of it after a while. You may want to have her checked for an infection too though, but if it's not that....don't worry, she will grow out of it after a while.....think of it like she just discovered a new toy..the novelty will wear off shortly.....lol

I agree, Kelly. If you make too big an issue of it,they will start exploring further. My doctor said not to worry about it and not to make it a big issue with her. I have noticed though that it is only at certain times in the month so I am thinking that it has something to do with the hormones.

Hi ^.^

I have read some articles written by doctors, saying girls rubbing their " " may have yeast infection. It is probably just itchy,no biggie, maybe you should get her checked,if she does then doctor will provide her with either cream which will soothe and cure it or other medication.Should definately check with the doc.Good Luck!!!! .>.< LizZ

Hi there Chantell. My daughter is now 5years old. She also started at that age and still doing it. I had her at the doctor and according to her, it is normal. She will grow out of it. Speak to her and ask her if it's itching. If she does it infront of other people, ask her to do it in her room. Some people get the wrong idea when they see the child doing it.
