I mix extra virgin olive oil in my daughters yogurt, spaghetti sauce, soups etc. It is natural and healthy. May take a day or 2 to get things started but as long as you do it everyday, she shouldn't have a problem. Drs tell us we need healthy oils in our diet anyway. This is an added bonus. Give it a try. It won't hurt in anyway.

I'm going though the same thing. My DD was constipated about 6 wks ago but the holding in is quite different! I think
It's psychological and she's remembering the one painful pop? Or maybe it's a toddler control thing!? One thing is I know there is nothing I can do to help make her poo. Her diet is high in fibre has loads of water but she just doesn't want to let it out! Then in day 4 or so it finally comes but lots of fussing and squirming and not to mention the nappy rash!!!

this is very common my litle brother is turning 40 and he did it when he was a toddler. I went thru this with my 4 year old. The doctor said to give him Miralax. I didn't want to but it works. Somewhere along the line your little girl had a dry hard poopie and it hurt now she is afraid it will hurt to poop. miralx drawswater into the bowels to soften them. It is not a laxative and w8ill not make her poop it will just soften them so it doesn't hurt. Also pedialax glycerin suppositories. She will poop within an hour.

I've been through all of that with my 2 1/2yr. old girl. Strawberry probiotic yogurt helps them go and slip her a little prune juice and she'll go. I was even told to give her an enima but I didn't have to go that far. Now she's using the potty and I have to give her an M M for going poo as a reward but it works.

What triggered it? Did she have a bad bout of nappy rash after a difficult poo. She seems to be very aware of her toiletting so perhaps she is ready for toilet training - if she won't use the potty try a trainer seat on the toilet. Have you let her see you using the toilet? (that often takes away some of the fear for them).

Just another suggestion but has anything else changed lately? She might be enjoying the extra attention of you hanging on her every poo (so to speak)! I know my little girl was very good at manipulating my anxieties at that age! Take all the pressure off her - make no fuss whether or not she does a poo and especially don't make any comments at all about poo being dirty - sometimes that can cause a problem particularly in fastidious little girls! I'm sure she will work this out.

On a final note, it might help if she was drinking things other than milk. She needs plenty of fluids to be able to go easily and anything such as squash, water or fruit juice will help!

Maybe try potty training.
She may be holding in her poops because if feels uncomfortable.
I have heard of poop anxiety among children who are potty training. I would start researching on potty training and keep asking her to poop. When she does cheer her on, and try not to make remarks about it being "stinky" or "pee ew" because she could be self conscious about it.
(I mention the smell comments because we sometimes do it with our son and Im trying to break the habit before we train him).
I hope this helps.

Have you tried prune juice? That should make her go naturally to the point she can't hold it in. I would also call the doctor because she can cause herself to become toxic inside if she keeps holding her poop in. My sister in law used to use kayo syrup for her baby when she was constipated and that always did the trick for her. Good luck.
