My little man won't poop on the potty?

I started potty training my little boy (he'll be 3 on July 2nd) only 4 days ago and he's been doing GREAT! He knows when he has to go and tells a grown up and goes. The problem is poop. He wants his diaper to poop. It doesn't seem like he is afraid of pooping in the potty, to the best that I can tell, it seems like he doesn't know HOW to do it. He is so used to positioning and pushing out a certain way with his diaper that doing it on the potty is difficult. I'm having him try on the potty before I give him his diaper just to poop. I can see he physically does try, but he gets discouraged. Does anyone have any advice for this particular issue? How can I teach him to go poop on the potty? I encourage him that it's just the same as going in a diaper, to push just the same as he would in his diaper, but how would I know if its the same?

my 2 year old is the same exact way! i am at a loss for what to do. i really hope more of the ladies respond!

ps. i never thought about having a certain way of pooping in the diaper/certain positions. my son likes to hide behind something when he is going poop. i've tried putting the potty in a private place but that hasn't worked!

I hope you get some good replies, because my 3 yr old is the same way. He absolutely will not got #2 on the potty. But he's doing great at peeing. I guess in time they'll figure it out?
