My son has always had a short temper. But until recently it hasn't been something I was too concerned about. He has been gritting his teeth so hard that it sounds like they are going to break. He does this when he is excited and angry and I can't tell sometimes which is causing his fits. For example if I'm on the couch and we are watching TV, or I'm on my phone he will start jumping around and trying to wrestle. He kicks, hits and gets completely out of control. I can't even hold him or have him look me in the eyes to seriously tell him to stop and explain why its ok. It's like he is not even coherent as to what is going on. I usually warn him a few times, then use my angry voice and get serious, if he continues then I send him to timeout where he screams and has a fit until he calms down. Usually after that he is ok and stops what I have asked him to do. Until the next time he gets excited or frustrated. Is it normal for him to be doing this, or is this over the top? Should I be worried that these are early signs of ADHD or Austism? He also will break down into tears sometimes just because I'm wearing my hair pulled back in a pony tail or bun, or even just my bangs pulled back. He will go into complete melt down mode until I put my hair down. HELP, I feel like I'm constantly walking on egg shells so as not to set him off. I don't want him to become a mean kid or start giving my parents or anyone else a hard time while they baby sit him.

Hi! My 8year old was acting the same way. This started when he was about 6. I finally reached out to a friend who's a nurse and she suggested that i have him tested at a play therapy office. I took him and he was diagnosed with ADHD AND BIPOLAR! The Dr.s tried diff medicine none of them worked on my son...(the side effects were horrific). I took him off all prescription A/V he is now taking fish oil, ginseng, and ginko! He is a completely different child. He is happy carefree loving sweet boy.
