My toddler barely smiles at me

Is anyone else in this situation? I try everything to get her to smile and I give her lots of attention during the day, but sometimes I feel like she's indifferent towards me or that I'm invisible. We've been at my in law's house ever since she was born and sometimes I feel like it may be because I didn't have the space to properly bond. It sucks because when she sees my BIL, she smiles like crazy and can't seem to get enough of him. I'm happy if she's happy, but it still hurts a lot. Idk if it's because there's so many people around, but I feel suffocated and self conscious and there's some days where I don't even want to leave the room. Is this normal? Am I being selfish?
