2 friends of mine have doubled up and decided to have a party for both of their sons (turning 2) together. They are doing a bubble themed party in the park. Really simple snacks and cake-picnic style while supplying lots of "bubble juice" and wands for the kids (and parents ;) ) to play with. Also, they chose a park that has play equipment for the little guys as well as the bigger kids.

Another idea a friend of mine had was a "Messy Playdate" party. They filled a blow up baby pool with rice and put funnels, scoops, toy little people farm animals, a little barn, etc. in it. Then there was a bubble station, chalk for writing on the sidewalk and a kiddie pool filled with soil. The dirt pool had little plastic bugs, worms, shiny rocks, etc that the kids could dig for with pails and shovels. She also had a little pool with a slide for the kids to play in (it was a hot day) and a big trampoline for the older kids.

My son turned 2 last October and we just did a little pizza party with family and cousins. It was at a pizza place with a little play area that had a tiny ball pit and some things to climb on. There were tantrums, etc but basically he had a blast ;)

We have a park nearby that has a carousel museum. They have a little bday party room you can rent that comes with little carousel ride tokens. I think we might do that when he turns 3 if it's not too expensive....either that or a little family train ride since he loves trains. I hope that helps a little!
