Hi there. Well what I know and continually try NOT to do is be 'controlling'. I don't want to control my son's behavior, I want to help him explore options (Love and Logic). My son gives me ragers when he's told NO. There is stomping, jumping up and down, 'huh'ing, and arms go a swinging at times. I've tried swats to the bottom & leg, time outs, taking toys away and even ignoring. Now, I do what I use to do, laugh and ask if that is all he's got and say I think he can do better. Realistically I probably shouldn't do that. I want to teach him how to make better choices, voice his frustrations instead of using actions. I did order Love and Logic, I also ready Postitive Partenting for Preschoolers. All agree that what I did, spank/swat (open hand on bottom) is WRONG. I too want to CONTROL my son's actions. But by doing that, he's not getting the option to make choices - isn't that what I'm suppose to be teaching my child, life is about choices and actions?. I have and am not consistant, my bad, but I do tell him that if he doesn't get in trouble at playschool or at home for 2 days, we can go to the park or get frozen yogurt. Two things he loves. But I don't believe in bribery either. So it's a catch 22. I guess you need to explore options, read books and take parts of what everyone has to offer and see what works for you and your child.
