I am raising my 2 year old grandson. When he was a baby he slept from 8pm to 8am. Now.... he only sleeps 2-3 hours at a time. He goes to bed at 8:30 pm. Wakes at 12:00, 2:00, 4:00 & 6:00. Like clockwork. He either comes and stands by my bed or plunders thru the house. He's figured out how to get the hallway gate down. He doesn't have night terrors cos the only time he screams is when I put him back in bed. I need help. Unlike a mother, I am a 56 yr old grandmother. I need sleep at night to be able to keep up with him during the day. Oh... I am doing this alone. Its no one but him and me.

Wow, I commend you for caring for your grandson.

Ok, I have a 10month old and a 3.5yr old.

So my 3.5 yr old goes to bed at 9pm in her room and she gets up around 12 or 1 am and comes in my room and sneaks into my bed. She has been doing this for over a year now.

Little kids just don't sleep all through the night. I have not gotten full nights sleep in years since she was born. Just the duties of a mom.

But, a schedule of activity before bed will keep little kids sleeping longer (exercise or high energy play time). You may still have to get a better gate for his room to keep him in there when he awakes, but you still may have to get up at night to put him back in the bed or sit by his bed until he falls asleep again.

Other option is to be sure his diaper is dry and be sure he is nice and full from eating before he sleeps.

Last option is to see a Dr to be sure something else is not keeping him up as well.

God Bless.
