Picky eater

My son is 18 months old and will only eat chicken nuggets, Mac and cheese, and grilled cheese. He won't eat anything slimy. Anyone else going through this? Anyone have any ideas of food I can try? I really want him to have some healthier options.

My son was becoming a picky eater, so I enrolled him in the Children's Health Study with Juice Plus+. After a month, he started asking for fruit for snacks, drinking more water and trying more vegetables at dinner time.

If you haven't done this already switch to whole wheat bread and pasta, real cheese not processed cheese, and chicken nuggets that are actual pieces of unprocessed chicken (as opposed to uniformly shaped nuggets made from mechanically separated chicken).

Real grilled cheese on whole wheat, and home made mac&cheese with whole wheat pasta aren't terrible, and if your son will eat breaded chicken breast strips it's a short leap to just eating chicken without the breaded coating.

I haven't done this personally, but some people have like with rolling fruit in crushed cereal. It makes it easier to pick up and not slippery or slimy feeling.

I also give our kids half sandwiches. Even our 10 year old still gets only a half sandwich or about a cup of pasta with sauce. That leaves room for fruits and veggies. Most toddlers won't have room for fruit or veg if they eat a whole sandwich.
