My two and a half year old son comes home from his dads house shooting. I can't handle all the violence. We have a no gun playing policy but as long as long as he doesn't hurt anyone pretend swords and such are ok.. He is a boy. I just need anyone's stories or advice on helping him learn the difference. I try to point out when someone in a movie gets shot how it hurt them and he gets it... Just anyone else's feedback.. No negativity please

My son plays with toy guns. Although we teach him don't shoot people only targets. He has never pointed his toy gun at me. We(husband and I ) go to the range and we keep our guns under lock and key. Education and responsibility is the only way to go.

oh ok now i understand.2year old arent even aloud to go to the cinema here where i live.I would have freaked out if my husband would go watch something like that with my son.He is just waaay to young to understand.I was aloud to shoot cans but i was 10years old.
I would suggest that you talk to his father and tell him that you dont want your son to watch violent stuff on tv or theater. He should understand that it is not ok for such a young aged child to be seeing it and that he doesnt understand that whats on tv isnt real.

Gena, his dad doesn't hunt or have real guns around (as far as I know) but lets them play with pretend ones and lets him watch a lot of cartoons with guns and violence. For instanc he took out two year old to see iron man in theaters. My son one day came home and made the gun shape with his fingers and took it to my head and went pow pow and the to my 11 month old and did the same.. I was horrified. I called the dad and he doesn't seem to think its a problem. I've had many of talks with my son imam just hoping for someone who can give me that extra advice. I honestly would rather my son being taught that guns are for hunting food rather shooting people

I didnt quite understand, does he shoot at his dads house with real guns? Me and my sisters were also aloud to shoot with my dad but we were older than your son.Does he watch the shooting?I just remember when i was young it was fun to shoot outside with my dad,i never thought of to harm somebody.(Eventhough i knew it can harm) I just personaly think maybe your son is to young to be around real guns.
I dont see a problem in boys pretend fighting with swords...boys are boys. But also be careful with what he sees in tv.He might not understand the diffrence between tv and reality.
