My son will be 18 months on the 5th and I was wondering if atleast attempting to start potty trainning was ok. Diapers are getting expensive and my job doesn't pay enough. So i wanted some tips on how to start him off or get him redi for it. So what age/ages did you start you child/children potty trainning and how? NEED ADVICE!

The first thing you should know is..they don't potty train just because you want them to...I learned that the hard way. We have now potty trained 2 of our daughters successfully the oldest started at 2 1/2 and regressed when our youngest was born and then went back at 3 years to finally be trained. Our little one was 2 in December and is on her 3rd completely dry training day.

You want to watch for signs. Is he curious about the potty? Is he having longer dry periods with the diaper on?
these are good indicators that he might be ready.

The pediatrician will tell you that the average age of a potty trained child is 4 1/2 ..which I personally think is very late. Most of my friends have had success about age 2 1/2 to 3 years. Any younger it seems that it is more you just remembering to get them to the toilet every so often and they don't have so much of a concept down.

I wish you the best and I hear you on the expense ...do I ever!
