My son who is 4 is starting pre-school in sept. Im happy and excited but also very upset. I know he needs pre-school to get him ready for kindergarden but im just so sad about it. Hes my baby and it breaks my heart when he says "mommy I dont want to go to school, I dont want to grow up" He is scared and also upset about starting school. I know that first day when I bring him in he is going to totally freak out 1 because he does not like strangers 2 because he also has a hard time when I leave for work every morning. Its just heart breaking seeing your baby cry for you. Though with this pre-k the teachers make a home visit before school begins which they are coming this friday. I think its very nice that way he can meet them, interact and play with them and kind of get to know them before hes left alone with them and his class mates. the day before school we have orientation where we go and he gets to me his class mates and play while us parents learn about what they will be doing. I think its great! I just to know if anyone has any great ideas that help this transition to school any easier. thanks so much!!

My son is also starting up, and it breaks my heart as well, one day he is excited to go to school then the next he is crying that he doesnt want to go. I would sit down and talk to your lil one, and spend as much time with them as possible. Make him feel like its a happy time, Ive been taking my son "School clothes" shopping and letting him pick his own clothes and backpack, trying to make it a happy time

Ahhhh.....so that is great that she/he is coming to meet him. Do they do a tour of the classroom before it starts?

He plays with plenty of children his age. He just doesnt like adults that he doesnt know. Im hoping once he see's how much fun it is that it wont be heart breaking to drop him off after a few days.

My daughter is starting in September too. She is 3. Why don't you try to get him to socialize with kids more? Try meetup.com before he starts school and get him acclimated with other kids. There are plenty of play groups and YOU get to meet other moms too. Usually the first month is free. So if you hate it no worries. My dues are $12 a year for one group. I'm a member of 4.
