Preschool 4 or 5 days per week? what is most beneficial?

I need some help deciding wether to enroll my 2.9 year old toddler boy in 5 days a week (M-F) He currently goes 4 days M-Th. The pros I can think of regarding the 4 day program is that he has gets a three day weekend which allows him to rest a little and I have him all to myself on Fridays. However my mother and his teacher brought up a good point which is that a 5 day weekly routine would be better because the 3 day weekend gap is alot for a child this young and he has a harder time re-adjusting every Monday when it's time to go back to school.

So I can see both points are valid, as much as I like the idea of having him to myself on Fridays, I really don't want to disrupt the routine he is adapting to at school, does great when he's there M-Th but gives everyone a hard time come Mondays!. Also he is very social and extremely active so he does get bored being home with me all day (He usually asks me to take him to school or to the park!).

What are your opinions and advice is 5 days too much or is 4 days disruptive and/or not as beneficial?

There is absolutely no guarantee that your son will be easier on Monday if you have him start going on Friday. I worked in daycare for 5 years and how many days a week a child attended had very little to do with their mood on the day they came back after the weekend. Some children transition easily even though they came only Tuesday thru Thursday. Some children were Monday thru Friday and Monday morning was always a battle. It has more to do with personality. Personally, I think toddlers need more time in small group or 1-1 settings than large group settings. I would leave your son on a 4 day schedule until he is closer to 4 years old.
If your son seems bored plan an activity for each Friday. My daughter will be 3 in Oct. and we paint and do play-dough and go places all the time. She is very social too and wants to play with any child she meets but is also good at playing alone.

My son didn't do preschool till he was 4, we only did one year. We only enrolled him for the socialization factor, we sent him 3 days a week 1/2 days. He adjusted just fine. My opinion is your child will adjust to whatever schedule you have him on, I highly doubt one more day is going to make the Monday transition that much easier. 5 days a week seems like a lot for a child that's not even 3 yet.
