My almost 3 year old daughter is potty trained at home and daycare but refuses to use any other toilets...grocery store, gas station even grandmas house. So I have to put her in pull ups to go anywhere. If I take her in to any of these places she screams and almost starts vomitting. Any suggestions?

My daughter is 6 yrs. old. She has been scared of using public bathrooms since she started preschool. I didn't realize how bad it was until recently. Her colon is distended & she can't feel it when she does poop. I had to give her an enema the other day. Now I'm having to give laxatives every day because she will hold it all day. The school & teachers do not understand. I'm going to try the portable potty. Any suggestions?

my daughter is 3 1/2 and recently started this new "fear"... every where we go her first question is "do they have automatic flushers?" she will not sit on it if they do... and even if they don't she finds something else she's afraid of... loud fan, the way it looks or smells. I have given up fighting her because there is no way she will relax long enough to actual go potty. I have started to have her pee right before we leave the house and I try not to be gone more than 3-4 hours. We did a road trip last weekend where we were going to be traveling for 2 days... so i brought a long her potty chair and just had her use that. it saved us. Everyone i talk to says she'll out grow it. I sure hope so... she'll start school in 2011... that's a year a way, so i'm just praying she's outgrown it by then.

check out the website onestepahead, they have alot of great travel potty solutions. Foldable potty seats, plastic covers everything. Hope it helps. Oh and if it has the automatic flushers try sticking a post it note over the sensor, I've heard other parents try this and it worked.

When I was a kid, I would never use public toilets, even at school. I just held it all day. This went on until I was in high school. You could get a portable potty for her to use. I've known moms who have done that while potty training. And try to teach her to go to the potty before she leaves the house so she doesn't need to go at the store.

My son did this also. I figured out it was the ones that automatically flush that scared him and the loud noise because it bounces off the walls and floors. So now every time we go to a public restroom I let him know if its going to flush by its self so he isn't caught by surprise. And I have him cover his ears so its not so loud when it flushes. He is doing better, he is still wary of the auto flushes but some times I can get him to go on if he covers his ears the whole time and I lift him on and off.

WOW... does she see you get freaked out in public bathrooms? Try bringing a portable potty seat, the ones that fit on top of the big toilet seat that fits their small bottoms. Most of them have handles, I would suggest one with handles. Maybe she is afraid of falling in or its so big it scares her. I am a germ-afobe! So we carry this and a bottle of hand sanitizer in our car. Hope this helps!!!
