If he dosn't start now, he'll be a year behind his peers. He'll either succeed or fail, more likely, he'll succeed if you give him the opprotunity. If he doesn't, take him out and try again next year. There's no reason to give him the stigma of being a year behind without it being necessary.

My son turned 4 in march and is starting pre-k on thursday. I am also emotionally not ready to let him go. I wish I could keep him home forever but the reality is its something that they have to do. we really dont have a choice in this. My son doesnt want to go to school but I told him all kids have to go its part of growing up. Im taking that day off of work so I can be there for him and i will be the one to drop him off and pick him up instead of his nana who will be doing it all other days. He is going from being home with his nana all day while i work right into a full day of school from 7:30 am - 2:30 pm. I really dont want him to go and pre-school isnt mandatory but I want him to go so he is prepared for kindergarden and not totally oblivious when he starts. I want him to get into the feel of the whole school thing before kindergarden. Im sure your son will be fine. Did he attend pre-k? if so he should be just fine. if not then he might be scared but im sure he will be fine :)

Did he do preschool? If he did what did his teachers say. If he didn't do preschool and you don't think he's ready for kindergarten then I would definitely get him enrolled in a preschool. Boys usually mature later and it's not uncommon for parents to hold there child back, why do you think he's not ready?
