Is it normal for my 3 year old to have a dislike for strangers? If they are friendly they can win him over. If they are average maybe after 20 minutes he will be ok to say bye or high five them. If they try to impose themselves on him by grabbing at him to hug when they first meet he will throw a fit.

Your 3 yr old is normal. Having a fear of strangers is good. I would be more concerned if your child did not have a fear of strangers and allowed anyone to grab and hug him....that is when you have a child with attachment issues and that is GREAT concern. Your child may become more relaxed around strangers as he grows or he might be a child that is a more slow to warm up personality. Each is normal and healthy. It is when you have a child that goes up and hugs every stranger or allows a stranger to go up and hug him without throwing a fit do you then have to worry.
