sippy cups

[deleted account] ( 6 moms have responded )

My son who is 31 months, loves to still drink from sippy cups. I like it just for the fact it isn't messy. I have started giving him his juice or water in a small cup while at the table with his meals. When would be a good time to stop him on his sippy and go fully with the cup?

Now. But then I never gave my kids sippy cups, they went straight to regular cups at age 1 because they only chewed on sippy cups.

Well I think Sippy cups are fine.. I have a three year old cousin who still drinks from one and her brother does too.. They have something made by playtex, it looks like an adult coffee cup, it's for older toddlers, Anyhow. I know most people may disagree but what is the harm in drinking from a sippy cup, its less mess and if you get the one with the straw then It actually strengthens the mouth muscles more?? According to my duaghters ped that is... I dono I think he should be allowed his sippy until he quits taking it. Its virtually just a cup with a lid.

Juice boxes....Now Ian goes to daycare two times a week. They only drink from a cup or juice box with a straw.

I always introduced both at the same time. sippy cups to save my sanity on frequent road trips and my mother in laws carpet, and big kid cups so they are learning to actually drink from a cup and that it is not ok to make a huge mess and of course if it happens how to clean up the mess. I would introduce the big kid cup and work towards it-like trade the sippy for an actual cup at home mealtimes start with breakfast work towards dinner it is an accomplishment in coordination to be able to handle a big kid cup so dont forget the praise

I wouldnt worry to much sipper cups are easy. A good way to get him off it is to give him a plastic cup, maybe in his favourite colour or with something he likes on the side (Wiggles, Hi-5 or a favourite animals). This could be his special big-boys cup, if it makes it easier buy some plastic straws and get him to use them to. hope this helps!

Hi Mary Ann! My son is 24 months and he also uses his sippy cup. I'm trying to ease him off the cup as well and found out that by using a cup without a lid but a straw inside is becoming a bit interesting. I have to sit with him but he likes the fact he can hold it by himself and drink out the straw like a "big boy"!
