Sign language! It is the biggest life saver. It will give them a way of telling you what they want without needing to use words.

I know you might be wondering how does this help her to talk- it does. It gives them a larger vocabulary. I actually started the sign language with my now 2 1/2 yr old when she was 6 months. She will still use the words we taught her about a year old. She will say the word but still use the signs.

you can go online and look up the words you want to use or find a baby sign language book. Basic words like eat or drink are easy for children.

My daughter is also 19 months old. I've noticed as of late she has began to PURPOSELY ignore me when i'm talking to her. I know she understands me but is choosing to ignore her parents. I'm curious if your daughter is doing the same to you. Your daughter is trying to communicate with you physically b/c her verbal skills are not where you need them to communicate that way. just be patient with her. I use a lot of repetition when talking to her ("would you like a drink [pointing to the cup]?", "this is a book, can you please put the book in the box?" etc), lots of narrating our day to day lives. I've noticed she's slowly picking up the words or making sounds similar to the words I repeat often. Just be patient with her and you guys will get it down! :)
