[deleted account] ( 2 moms have responded )

I have a two year old and he used to go down for a nap with no problem. Lately i but him in his crib and he screams bloody murder. If he doesn't get a nap he wants to go to bed at 6pm and then gets back up and doesn't go to sleep til 10 or 11. any suggestions?

I pretty much agree with Kaylynne...my daughter is 19 months and did the same thing. I just continued on at the regular naptime, but I do take her to the park or for a walk around our neighborhood about mid-morning. I always explain that naptime is coming up, hold her and rub her back, and when she has relaxed a bit I lay her down and tell her, 'night-night' just like it's bedtime. If she starts to cry when I leave the room, I usually just let her do it, and step outside for a few minutes. Usually in about 5-10 minutes, she settles down on her own (this is hard to do, but it works for my daughter.) Remember, kids that age need about 12-13 hours of sleep, at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours during the day. Without that daytime sleep, their whole schedule gets messed up.

Be sure your son has enough physical exercise. Two year olds have a lot of energy, and if it's not burned off, it may interfere with sleep later on. Putting him down everyday at the same time will develop a schedule that he will eventually get used to. My son was the same way, eventually, all i had to do was sit in a dark room and rub his back for 5-10 minutes and he would calm down and doze off.
