Hello. I'm new here and looking for advice. My son is 27 months old and only says a hand full of words. He babbles a lot too. I am really worried and autism has been mentioned by my hv which I believe should not of been said to me. I am really worried and getting upset a lot of the time. Rather than talking he drags me to places and does follow simple instructions. Go in the bathroom etc. He points and grunts a lot when he wants something. He is always laughing and smiling. He holds his hands up to be picked up and cuddles and kisses. Has anyone experienced this with there children? Any advice would be great. Thanks

I'm not from the u.s. I have an appointment with a speech therapist which I should get around march time as they have said they only think he is standard priority. I am saying the words for him to repeat it. He is my second child and my daughter was talking be 10 months.

If you are in the US have him evaluated by your local AEA (area education agency). They will do a free evaluation and also if they see he has a delay they will get you the help you need for free.

A question to ask yourself is if you are enabling him to not talk. If he points or grunts for things instead of giving it to him if he knows the word act like you don't understand and only give it to him if he says the word. If he does not know the word then when you give him the object repeat the word several times. After doing this for awhile then require him to say the word before getting the object.
