I have the same problem except my daughter is 3 years old and has been diagnosed with central sleep apnea. And her specialist says because she didn't figure out how to comfort her self when she was younger. (My now 8 year old daughter who had colic and a cleft palate who i couldnt let cry all night cause of health issues didnt have any problems sleeping all night by 2 1/2). she wakes up with nightmares and sleepwalks. But when she stays at Grandmas (who picked her up when she was younger when she cried in the night) now she sleeps all night. Explain that? and any over the counter medication reccomendations would be great!! (shes had tonsils out and adnoids out)

Very interesting to read, I try putting my twins boy/girl to sleep at 8:30 or 9:00 and my son gets up and comes into my bed. I know he doesn't get a comfortable night sleep... and boy does he give me trouble. But then again he also gets a 2 hour nap during the day.

Hey there Christy, thanks for sharing the article. My son also was diagnosed with sleep apnea. he would wake up screaming every 2 hours, you could almost set you watch by it. He had is tonsils and adenoids removed and now we get 11 beautiful hours of sleep a night. He really has changed so much since his operation...so much happier. Fiona x

You would need to take them to a sleep clinic. It is over night one night and you get to sleep in the room with them. All they do is hook up some wiring to them (doesn't hurt) they stick it on with tape and read there heart rate, breathing etc throughout the night. I would definitely HIGHLY recommend you get this done if you have even the slightest fear that they are stopping breathing at night. Has changed my daughters entire life.

What kind of testing do they do for sleep apnea? I have a 2 year old that sometimes stops breathing at night. when he wakes up after 9 to 10 hours of sleep hes ready to go back to bed.

My 4 year old has her issues with taking naps as well. As a matter of fact, she had sleep apnea (recently got her tonsils out) and the doctor said she stopped breathing 120 times in one night. You would have thought she would have been a walking cranky zombie, but nope. Never would've have ever expected that she would have had that. Craziness.

My goodness! I didn't realize toddlers needed that much sleep! My sister and I both have toddlers whom are unruly during the day and neither of them get that much sleep.. Mine averages 8-10 with no naps cause he wont take them and my nephew averages 6-8 hours with a 30 min-2 hour nap.. I am definently going to look into getting them much more sleep! Thanks for sharing the article!
